Murray C. Maytom, MBChB
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Maytom joined Lithera Inc. in November 2008, and prior to that most recently served as the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Transcept Pharmaceuticals between August 2006 and July 2008. With over fifteen years of combined experience in clinical development and medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Maytom has worked on a number of key product NDAs, including the 2008 Intermezzo® NDA, and the 1998 Viagra® NDA. His experience in clinical development and medical affairs is both US and international in scope.

Having entered the industry as a UK Country Medical Advisor to Rhône Poulenc Rorer in 1993, Dr. Maytom subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility within Pfizer’s UK R&D facility, where he directed a number of clinical programs and then from Pfizer’s New York Headquarters provided international medical support both pre- and post-launch. He subsequently was appointed as Managing Director of a privately held UK start-up company in Oxford. On his return to the US he moved into neuropsychiatric drug development within the field of sleep medicine, initially at Neurocrine Biosciences before continuing in this field at Transcept Pharmaceuticals Inc. where he led the Intermezzo® 505(b)2 clinical program until NDA submission.

A United Kingdom licensed physician, Dr. Maytom obtained a BSc degree in Anatomical Science, and an MBChB degree from the UCT Medical School in South Africa. He subsequently received postgraduate training in general surgical specialties and anesthesiology in the UK obtaining his Diploma in Anesthesiology from the London Royal College of Surgeons.
